Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is a not for profit PEAK organisation for Vic,Tas and NT run by staff and volunteers who are passionate in supporting those with ME/CFS. Our organisation has over 1,000 members. We provide a range of support and services for children, teens and adults with ME/CFS and their carers. We require the media volunteer to help ME/CFS Australia (Vic,TAS,NT) build on its achievements with awareness and help make significant changes in the understandings of ME/CFS by all. We are the only group that provides support, services, advocacy, lobbying, education and awareness dedicated to the cause of ME/CFS
ME/CFS is highly trivialised, it is not just 'fatigue' it is not just 'chronic fatigue' it is not 'depression'. Myalgic EncephalomyeIitis is a serious neuro-immune condition. Some people with ME/CFS die, some will recover, some will stay the same. Appropriate early care, support, information and treatment is vital.
With ME/CFS the patient's activity level is reduced by approximately 50% or more. Some patients are housebound or bedridden and dependent on others for their daily care. ME/CFS is "actually more debilitating than most other medical problems in the world" including patients undergoing chemotherapy and HIV/AIDS patients..." Curruthers, B & van de Sande, M (2005) 'Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome: A clinical case definition and guidelines for medical practitioners, an overview' (Canadian Guidelines).
