Smoke-free Community Campaigner Volunteer

Cancer Council NSW is dedicated to defeating cancer by building a cancer smart community. The Policy and Advocacy Unit is seeking dynamic and enthusiastic volunteers for the position of Smoke-free Community Campaigner. Campaigners will help to trigger a debate in Parliament about the need for legislation for smoke-free outdoor areas, by collecting signatures for a petition.

This campaign is already underway and will run for a further 3 weeks and we are looking for people who can commit for anything from 1-6 days over the period of the campaign.

As a Smoke-free Community Campaigner, you will be parrt of a small team of 2-4 people working in busy public places around Sydney (shopping malls, transport hubs etc), responsible for

  • Initiating conversations with members of the public about the need for legislation for smoke-free outdoor areas
  • Asking members of the public to sign a petition to Parliament asking the Government to legislate for smoke free outdoor areas in locations such as children’s playgrounds and alfresco dining.

This role will suit people with strong interpersonal skills, a friendly and outgoing disposition, and the ability to initiate persuasive conversations with members of the public. 

All Smoke-free Community Campaigners will receive a briefing and orientation session at our office in Woolloomooloo.
