About the role

Homework Club Tutors are responsible for providing homework support to primary or secondary school students once a week. The Whittlesea Learning Support Program (WLSP) provides support to students from migrant and refugee backgrounds who attend local schools in City of Whittlesea. The program assists in developing young people’s confidence and helping them socially and academically to participate in class in a more meaningful way. In particular, the WLSP focuses on English language, literacy, numeracy, homework andstudy skills.

Position Responsibilities

§ Support the learning needs of students through assisting with their weekly homework tasks or assignments.

§ Develop positive relationships with young people on the program

§ Attend at least 90% of all sessions for at least two school terms

§ Work cooperatively with the other volunteer tutors and staff on the program

§ Participate in an evaluation of the program

§ Understanding of Whittlesea Community Connection’s mission to address disadvantage in the community, and to promote community participation.

§ Ability to work within operational policies and maintain confidentiality

§ Ability to work as part of a team and independently

§ Ability to communicate effectively with young people

§ Interest in assisting young people with their education
