About the role

Future Foundations is committed to empowering the lives of disadvantaged young people through a community program that combines a creative arts therapeutic program and personal mentoring.

We coordinate community programs that bring together young people from disadvantaged areas with artistic and business professionals who provide mentoring and support in the communities where the young people live. The program addresses some of the characteristics and learning impediments these children may face through the mainstream educational institutions.

The program group lasts for eight months and has up to 25 participants from a single school or group of schools, aged between 10 and 14 years. This is to ensure that they receive one on one attention and mentoring. Each project has a community focus and ends with a public art exhibition where the participants present their art piece.  The program is in its third year and is being conducted in the Dandenong region and within the City of Port Phillip.

Creative mentors help run group workshops, which guide the participants towards completing an art piece for a community public art exhibition. There are 15 workshops, which will begin in July 2016 for this year’s program. These are held weekly each Saturday from 10am – 2pm. A time commitment of 5 hours per week over six months is required for the creative mentoring program.
