About the role
Whittlesea Community Connections currently runs a Persian Speaking Women’s Group on Fridays during school terms from 10:30am to 1pm. As part of this program we run an informal English language class with the women in addition to other activities.
We are looking for volunteers to provide one-on-one bilingual support to help some of the women in our group who have minimal to basic level (Level 0-1) English proficiency. We hope to assist these women to understand the language activities and exercises conducted by our Teacher/Co-Facilitator Lynne Dobby, as well as providing assistance with understanding and completing individual language exercises and tasks as appropriate should the class content not be suitable.
The volunteer will be:
- Providing general support to the women in class to review and complete class exercises where assistance is needed
- Providing one-on-one support for women who are lower-level English language learners to complete specially provided exercises and tasks as requested by the Group Co-Facilitators
- Assisting the Group Co-Facilitators to run interactive group activities and exercises with the group as appropriate
- Attending 1-2 consultation meetings with the Group Co-Facilitators each term to review group feedback and planning out English language activities and exercises for the group

Experience and Skills that would be an advantage, but not essential in the role include:
- Previous tutoring experience, or previous work with people from non-English speaking backgrounds
