Whilst in the UK I was surprised to see the availability of rental cars specifically for people with a disability. On return to Sydney I repeatedly said 'someone should start a specialty rental company for people with a disability' Eventually I became that someone - Ken Ferris Manager Disability Hire Vehicles Service Details The following will give you an indication of what Disability Hire Vehicles can provide. It is not a definitive guide, tailored to our clients needs. Client Group Mature adults / People with Disabilities and their carers Area Served National, from our office in metropolitan Sydney Our Service Rental of motor vehicles and equipment, adapted to suit mature adults and people with disabilities Products Adapted vans to carry people in their wheelchair, Mid size car with automatic gearbox & "Radial" HANDCONTROLS Mid size car with automatic gearbox & LEFT FOOT ACCELERATOR Other motor vehicles to be included in our expanding fleet. Various equipment and aids eg wheelchairs, shower chair, crutches etc Who drives You, our service is predominantly self drive, though we can arrange a driver if you wish. Cost We have various hire packages that vary with product and length of hire period, so contact us with your requirements and let us tailor a package to suit your needs Payment Cash, Travellers Cheques, VISA, MasterCard Pickup & Return Is generally from our office 10 to 6 Monday to Friday. We know this isn't always practical for our clients. We are flexible with times and location and are happy to provide alternatives, though a charge may occur. I wonder if I could? DON'T wonder ASK! We aim to be helpful and flexible, we'll find a solution to most situations. Other Services INFORMATION, we are not an information service, but our manager is a person with a physical disability. Pick his brain! If Ken doesn't have the answer, he should be able to find someone who does. Storage If you are worried about excess baggage coming to Australia, we provide a storage service for our clients. Mail your disposable personal care needs, incontinent sheets, enemas, disinfectant etc and/or limited clothing to us. Your package will be delivered with your vehicle. We only ask the package be of equivalent capacity as a suitcase and full postage paid. DHV is not responsible for the package in transit.
