3CR 855AM is Melbourne's independent, alternative community radio station. Committed to providing a voice to people and issues not traditionally represented in the mainstream media, 3CR has 136 radio programs and 400 volunteer broadcasters. Social and environmental justice informs the diverse programming which ranges from alternative current affairs to community language programs to music, arts and culture. 3CR represents a diverse, active and progressive community of volunteers, staff and broadcasters. As the Australian media becomes less diverse, due to the economic and political rationalization of media production, the role of independent media has become more important.
