What is RSS?

RSS stands for ‘Really Simple Syndication’.  An RSS feed contains details of the latest items added to a website, enabling users to keep up to date without having to keep visiting the website.

To subscribe to an RSS feed, you can either download news reader software or use a Web-based news reader such as Google Reader.  There are a lot of free feed reader applications, here are a few that we recommend:

 Google Reader
  FeedDemon (Windows)
  Snarfer (Windows)
  NewsFire (Mac)
  NetNewsWire (Mac)
  Liferea (Linux)

Still confused?  Here is a great video providing a basic overview of RSS.
