The Federal Government has released a set of online resources to help retrenched workers get back on their feet.

On Friday, Minister for Employment, Senator Eric Abetz, launched the What’s Next website, saying it was important that workers who were made redundant reenter the workforce.

“Each year many Australians face the difficult situation of being retrenched from their job,” Senator Abetz said.

“Losing your job is a very stressful time and many workers will naturally wonder, what’s next for me?”

Senator Abetz said the website would pull together a range of information and self-help resources to identify a person’s skills and strengths to get them on a pathway to new employment as quickly as possible.

“This is a one-stop shop that also provides advice and assistance on careers, training opportunities, help with resumes, practical tips on finding a new job and support available for relocating for work,” he said.

“What’s Next includes a link to Changing Lanes – which is a website developed specifically for automotive workers facing retrenchment. The site provides information about the range of support available to help them to transition to a new sector.”

Senator Abetz said workers who have lost their job could also be eligible to receive help from Centrelink and jobactive, the Australian Government’s $6.8 billion employment service, designed to better meet the needs of job seekers and employers and improve employment outcomes.
