11 June 2014 at 3:01 pm

The IAVE World Volunteer Conference being hosted by Australia in September has released its conference program, including the lineup of keynote speakers.

The program addresses volunteering in capacity building, in building corporate and social responsibility in employee volunteering and inter-sector collaboration as well as traditional and contemporary indigenous volunteering experiences.

It also examines volunteering in philanthropy, the successes and challenges in current legislation surrounding volunteering whilst at the same time planning policies for the effective development of the volunteer movement world-wide.

The Keynote speakers include Kang Hyun Lee, the President of IAVE and co-chair of the Board of the Korean Council of Volunteers; Richard Dictus, from the Netherlands, who is the Executive Coordinator of United Nations Volunteers; and retired High Court Judge and supporter of civil society organisations world wide, Michael Kirby who will address the conference on volunteering and human rights.

Advocate for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and C20 Steering Committee member Jody Broun will deliver a keynote address on Volunteering: The Australian Aboriginal Experience – A Reciprocal Model.

Earlier this year the Australian organisers of the World Volunteer Conference took  to crowdfunding to raise additional money to pay for scholarships for people to attend the international gathering.

Australia was successful in winning the rights to the 2014 International Association of Volunteer Effort (IAVE) conference, with volunteering peak body Volunteering Australia as the host organisation.

The crowdfunding campaign with Indiegogo hopes to raise as much as $200,000.

“We have worked tirelessly to secure sponsorships and funding but economically it's not a great time in Australia and the Federal Coalition’s  focus on reducing the deficit has impacted us,” the Chairperson of the Advisory Committee of the 23rd IAVE World Volunteer Conference and Patron of Volunteering Australia, Margaret Bell said.
