Volunteering Australia Releases Teaser to National Survey

Family (59.3%) and work commitments (52%) were most frequently mentioned by Australian volunteers when asked about personal circumstances that affect how and when they volunteer.

Volunteering Australia says this is just one of the findings of its National Survey of Volunteering Issues 2011 which will be released in full on International Volunteer Day on December 5th.

As a teaser to the report’s release, Volunteering Australia says while the influence of family and work commitments on volunteering is highlighted in the survey, it also found that many  organisations doing are something about it.

The survey found that half of organisational respondents had introduced different/new ways of offering volunteering to existing or prospective volunteers in the past 12 months.

Approximately 60% said they had introduced greater flexibility in when people could volunteer.

Some 2,900 people responded to the National Survey of Volunteering Issues 2011 by Volunteering Australia.

International Volunteer Day (IVD) was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1985. IVD is now celebrated worldwide with thousands of volunteers involved in a range of IVD initiatives including clean-up campaigns, conferences, exhibitions, morning teas and many other activities all aimed to highlight the role of volunteers in their communities.
