Applications Open for Women’s NFP Director Scholarships

Women across Victoria are being encouraged to consider applying for a scholarship to enhance their Not for Profit board expertise and skills.
Applications have opened for the Victorian Women’s Governance Scholarship – a joint initiative of the Victorian Government and the Australian Institute of Company Directors that will provide 34 women with training in corporate governance through the Company Directors Course.
With $180,000 funding from the Victorian Coalition Government, the scholarships are available to women who are serving directors of Not for Profit boards that currently receive state government funding.
Women’s Affairs Minister Mary Wooldridge says the course is highly regarded and will enhance the knowledge and skills of participants, making them better directors in their current roles and preparing them for further directorships in the future.
“It will also strengthen the governance of the Not for Profit boards of which these women are currently directors.
Company Directors’ Victorian Division Manager, Paul Geyer said it was exciting to have the opportunity to partner with the Victorian Government to make a real mark on board diversity, while bringing better governance to the state’s Not for Profit boards.
“These organisations often don’t have a lot of funding and rely heavily on the goodwill of the community and volunteers, so it is vital the people sitting on their boards have the necessary knowledge and tools,” Geyer said.
Scholarship applications close on 10 February 2012.
