Western Australia's state-run lottery, Lotterywest has delivered a record $113 million dollars to WA charities in the last financial year.

The Lotterywest 2009-10 Annual Report reveals that 1,148 different community and charitable organisations across the State benefited from direct grants totalling $113 million.

In the 2009-10 financial year Lotterywest raised, in total, $234.8 million which went to support hospitals, sports, the arts, as well as community and charitable organisations.

Tabling the report in State Parliament, WA Premier, Colin Barnett said Lotterywest was the envy of many lotteries around the world for its direct relationship with thousands of Not for Profit organisations throughout the State.

Premier Barnet says grants made by Lotterywest make a profound difference to the lives of all West Australians.

He told Parliament that from the St John’s Ambulance Service to the surf lifesavers; from providing funds for medical research to supporting organisations such as St Bartholomew’s to assist homeless people, Lotterywest grants make the Western Australian community the ultimate winner from the State lottery.

Lotterywest is the only lottery in Australia with a direct grants program.

From every dollar West Australians spend on their Lotterywest games each week, 33 cents is returned to benefit the community.
