FIA Urges Labor to Honour Promises
Posted: Wednesday, September 8, 2010 - 09:11
The Fundraising Institute Australia is one of the first peak bodies to call on the newly elected Labor Government to honour its election promise to drive a major reform agenda for Australia’s Not for Profit sector.
FIA CEO Chris McMillan says the organisation welcomed Prime Minister Julia Gillard’s promise on August 9 to immediately establish a Commonwealth-level Office for the Non-Profit sector to drive and co-ordinate the policy reform agenda within government

McMillan says the sector now looks forward to the swift establishment of that office, along with Gillard’s other undertakings.
These include:
- Create greater harmonisation and simplification of regulation between federal, state and territory governments; and
- Reduce red-tape for government-funded NFP organisations.
- View Labor's Not for Profit sector reform policy announcement here.
McMillan says the FIA has fought long and hard, alongside other key bodies, to convince the Federal Government of the importance of creating a more supportive working environment for NFPs and it wants to continue that dialogue with the government.
She says when the Labor Government’s plans to strengthen the sector are realised, they will ensure improved transparency and accountability, as well as even better outcomes for all those people and causes assisted by the NFP sector.
