About AbSec

The Aboriginal Child, Family and Community Care State Secretariat (NSW) (AbSec) is the peak organisation providing policy advice on matters impacting Aboriginal children, young people and families, and supporting a strong Aboriginal community controlled sector in NSW. AbSec also builds the capacity of the Aboriginal disability NGO sector providing service and support choice for Aboriginal people with disability.

AbSec is underpinned by the rights of Aboriginal people to make decisions that impact their lives, recognising the interests of children, young people, families and carers, and communities, as well as the agencies that support them.

The Role

Reporting directly to the Manager of Sector Capacity this role will work closely with member agencies to build the capacity of the sector focusing mainly on disability and out of home care in emerging community controlled organisations.

You will also manage projects that guide the sustainable establishment of a viable sector as well as overseeing projects that help build the capacity and enhance the existing service provider network.

Skills Required

You have proven experience via effective project management approaches in building the capacity of organisations to deliver formal services against relevant benchmarks and standards.

You also have the ability to engage with Boards and Management committees, as well as Aboriginal communities to discuss governance and service performance issues and identify resolutions to conflicting ideas.

Ideally you also have the knowledge of the unique requirements for service provision in the human services sector, specifically child protection, out of home care and disability services
