About the role
Dunmore Lang College (DLC) was the first affiliated college at Macquarie University. Its purpose is to assist students embrace the challenges of university life at every transition from new undergraduate to postgraduate researcher.
The College is located on the edge of the University campus, a short walk from the teaching and library centres of the University and retail and transport services. It accommodates approximately 250 residents in a variety of accommodation styles and with essential student facilities.
The Community Manager is a member of the pastoral care team reporting to the Dean of Students. The role assumes primary responsibility for the safety, security and well-being of the College community overnight 11pm – 8am through the:
- Monitoring of the College fire and security systems,
- Supporting students as required,
- Ensuring environment quiet and respectful of other Residents
The role is supported by a Senior Duty staff member who is on-call on a rostered basis.
Applicants must possess:
Professional experience and qualifications
- Experience in a similar role.
- An understanding of the key challenges affecting university students especially as these relate to health and welfare.
- Demonstrated ability to manage personal/ professional boundaries especially as a member of a residential community.
- Experience of living or working in a Residential College environment is preferred and will be an advantage.
- Certificate or higher qualification in community management, welfare, social work, teaching, healthcare, youth work, pastoral care, or counselling. Consideration will be given to applicants with security or police training and qualifications if this is augmented by pastoral or welfare training.
Position requirements
- Excellent communication skills
- Experience in basic maintenance work will be an advantage
- A high level of accuracy and strong attention to detail: incident reports, welfare issues, maintenance requests etc. are reported accurately and promptly..
- A proactive approach to developing solutions and new initiatives.
- An understanding of EEO and WHS principles and a commitment to upholding these.
- Current First Aid certificate (or willingness to obtain one) and Australian drivers licence and a NSW or Federal Police Check and Working with Children Check (or willingness to obtain one).
- Well-presented and able to represent the College in a professional manner
- A commitment to working in a diverse community with sensitivity and respect.

- A commitment to maintaining personal and professional development.
KPI’s will be based on Key Duties of:
- Building security, maintenance and safety
- Supporting the College Commuinty
- Working collaboratively with other staff members
