About the role

About the Organisation

The Eastern Domestic Violence Service Inc (EDVOS) is a not for profit community organisation located in the eastern metropolitan region of Melbourne that provides a range of services to women and their children experiencing and responding to domestic violence. As a feminist agency, EDVOS locates violence and abuse of women and children within a social and political context. Using a human rights framework, EDVOS aims to assist women and their children to live free from violence and address the emotional and practical needs and issues arising there from. The organisation believes the safety of women and children is paramount, and that children should be protected and have their opportunities for development promoted. EDVOS provides risk assessment and safety planning, specialized short term systemic advocacy as well as information and case management support to access legal assistance, accommodation opportunities and other services that promote safety. Their aim is to work with women to exercise their right to self-determination.

EDVOS believes perpetrators should be held accountable for their use of violence and challenged to take responsibility.

About RAMP

In 2011, the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) began investigating coordinated multi-agency approaches to strengthening family violence risk management. Strengthening Risk Management Demonstration Project pilots were established in the City of Hume and the City of Greater Geelong in June 2011. As a part of these pilots, the Risk Assessment and Management Panels (RAMPs) were set up and tasked with identifying and responding to families at high risk.

The initiative aimed to assist:

‘women and women with children at high risk of family violence. The [initiative] was also designed to increase accountability by men who use violence, and to contribute to greater service system integration, in response to family violence. The [initiative] was intended to focus on the extreme end of the family violence continuum where men perpetrate serious injury and harm, and lethality, on women and women with children.’ (Evaluation of the family violence Strengthening Risk Management Demonstration Projects in Victoria2013)

In 2014, the Victorian government committed another $12.5 million to fund 17 RAMPs—one in each DHHS area across Victoria.
