Volunteering WA (VWA) was established in 1988 and is the peak body for volunteering in Western Australia.

VWA aims to build strong connected communities through volunteering by providing a range of resources, services and support to the sector.

VWA operates with a team of ~20 FTE, and the committed support of 600+ Volunteers, working under the principles of inclusion, innovation and integrity.  It works in partnership with a range of stakeholders on a day-to-day basis that include Volunteering Involving Organisations (VIOs), the national peak body for volunteering (Volunteering Australia), and a range of industry partners that help maintain the National Volunteer Platform.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) reports to the Board and has overall responsibility for the strategy, management and performance of VWA.

The CEO will oversee VWAs day-to-day operations, managing and developing the members of the VWA team to achieve the organisation's strategic and operational goals.  The CEO will play a key role in shaping the organisational culture and, as the 'face and voice' of VWA, will be accountable for building and strengthening partnerships with government, volunteering and other relevant stakeholder groups.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead the VWA team to achieve the organisation’s vision, strategy and goals:

  • Communicate the vision and values of the organisation with passion, confidence and authority.
  • Provide effective day-to-day management of VWA operations.

Build advocacy for volunteering:

  • Work at a local, state and national level to promote volunteering.

Identify, develop, and maintain effective long-term relationships with Government, corporate, NFP and community stakeholders at the highest level.

Develop the Western Australian volunteering sector:

  • Increase VWA membership.
  • Communicate with members, and utilise members’ input to raise standards in the volunteering sector.
  • Improve the capability of members by providing appropriate training and resources.
  • Attract new volunteers to the sector by increasing awareness of volunteering opportunities.

Improve the positioning and profiling of volunteering and VWA:

  • Promote the interests of the volunteering sector and VWA.
  • Develop and maintain key relationships with government bodies, VIOs and other partners.
  • Develop strategic partnerships that support the goals of VWA and the broader sector.
  • Ensure existing funding sources for the organisation are maintained and that new sources of funding are secured.

Develop research and inform positive government policy:

  • Identify relevant government policies that have interdependencies with the volunteering sector.
  • Set the research agenda for VWA and liaise with relevant educational / research bodies.
  • Leverage research outcomes to advocate for beneficial policy change.

Promote good governance and the sustainability of volunteering operations

  • Provide effective management and oversight over business operations.
  • Oversee the annual budget / forecast process, and ensure strong financial management.

KEY COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCE

A successful candidate will be a people-orientated leader with solid commercial skills and the ability to influence a wide variety of stakeholders in a positive manner.

Essential:

  • Senior leadership experience with P&L responsibility.
  • Proven expertise in finance, governance, human resources and information technology.
  • Previous project experience improving systems, processes and / or procedures.
  • Strong track record of securing funds from corporate and government sources, through effective advocacy, marketing and business development.
  • Extensive stakeholder / relationship management experience.
  • Previous experience developing and fostering strategic partnerships.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a multi-disciplinary team of highly competent employees.
  • Visible commitment to ongoing professional and leadership development (both personally and across the management team).

Desirable:

  • Prior management experience in a medium to large NFP, community services or service provider at an appropriate senior status.
  • Previous business development, marketing and / or relationship management experience.
  • Networks within Government and NFP sector (and strong advocacy track record).
  • Appropriate Tertiary qualifications.?

To be considered for this role candidates must have existing entitlements to work in Australia.

A remuneration package comprising of total fixed remuneration, plus superannuation at 12.5 % plus access to a fully maintained motor vehicle is available to qualifying candidates.

Tax effective, salary packaging options can also be made available.
