Pormpur Paanth Aboriginal Corporation is a non government, community controlled organisation, established in 1991 out of community need. It's focus is to provide quality, evidence-based services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families in Pormpuraaw Qld, providing child care, accommodation, education, domestic and family violence counselling, alcohol and other drug counselling and support for families and their children.

About the Pormpuraaw region
Pormpuraaw is an Aboriginal community situated on the west coast of Cape York Peninsula approximately half way between Karumba and Weipa on the Edward River, located 650 kilometres from Cairns.
With its paved roads and lagoons full of bird life, Pormpuraaw is close to white, pristine beaches between the Chapman and Munkun Rivers and is one of Cape York's best kept secrets for barramundi, bream and salmon fishing. It hosts guest accommodation, camping areas, a supermarket, post office, school, clinic, police station and social services. The people of Pormpuraaw are proud of their community and its history.
About the Opportunity
Pormpur Paanth Aboriginal Corporation has a rewarding and exciting opportunity for two AOD Counsellors (Alcohol & Other Drugs) to join its dedicated team in Pormpuraaw, Qld. These are contract positions, subject to funding.
One of the AOD Counsellor roles required applicants to be male. In this position an applicant's gender are a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised by division 2, section 14 & 31 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1997, as amended.
Reporting directly to the Integrated Services Manager, you'll be responsible for the delivery of alcohol and other drug services including assessment, brief intervention, counselling, treatment and case management, crisis intervention and relapse management, to individuals, groups and families where alcohol, tobacco and other drug use is a concern.
In addition, your responsibilities will include the coordination of referrals and joint case management, providing expert advice, staff mentoring and supporting a team of counsellors and family support workers to develop culturally appropriate promotion, prevention and community well being initiatives and group workshops.About the Benefits
