OUR INSPIRING PRESENTERS
Our presenters, Maree Crabbe and David Corlett, will lead you through a dynamic presentation and discussion about the impact of contemporary pornography on young people’s concepts of gender and sex.
Maree and David are project workers for ‘Reality & Risk: Pornography, Young People and Sexuality’, a community education project aiming to equip young people to critique the messages about sex and gender portrayed in pornography.
Maree and David have conducted interviews in Australia and overseas with young people, academics, professionals working with young people and performers, directors, producers, agents and executives in the porn industry.
THE POWER OF PHILANTHROPY
The presentation will help you understand how pornography is influencing young people’s sexual imaginations and experiences, with concerning implications for gender equality. Reflecting on the ways inequality is eroticised will assist you to recognise the dynamics of gender stereotypes and power and leave you better equipped to use gender inquiry within your personal lives and philanthropic activity.
‘Reality & Risk’ is an excellent example of the power of philanthropy and the possibilities of philanthropic partnerships. Brokered by the Victorian Women’s Trust, the project is funded by the William Buckland Foundation, the Myer Foundation, the Ian Potter Foundation and the Victorian Women’s Trust.
(Please note, there will be no explicit footage but some discussions may be confronting.)
