Although we address all forms of heart disease, we have as a major focus the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of heart muscle diseases. We are a leader in adult stem cell technologies and their potential application to the treatment of cardiovascular disease. We currently have 5 research divisions covering Cardiac Physiology and Transplantation, Developmental Biology, Molecular Cardiology & Biophysics, Molecular Genetics and Structural & Computational Biology.

Mission / Objective

The Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute has as its mission "the relief of pain and suffering and the promotion of well-being, through an understanding of the fundamental mechanisms of cardiovascular biology in health and disease". While the Institute conducts research into all forms of heart disease, it has a primary focus "the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of heart muscle diseases."

Beneficiary Group

The research conducted at the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute benefits all mankind.   Heart disease does not discriminate - it can strike at any time whether you are young or old, fit or not, male or female, no matter where you come from.   It is Australia's No. 1 killer - four times more women die from heart disease compared to breast cancer.

Wills and Bequests

Today, bequests are becoming a more important source of funding.  However small or generous a bequest may be, you can be confident that it will assist the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute in its quest to solve the mystery of heart disease. All money received from bequests goes directly to our research.

So that we can acknowledge your generosity, we would like to make you a member of our newly formed Young @ Heart Bequest Club.  This gives us the chance to thank those who have provided for the Institute in their Will.  You will be invited to attend a bi-annual Young @ Heart tour and luncheon.
