Taronga Foundation

Mission / Objective

Our mission is to secure a shared future for wildlife and people. By giving
to Taronga, you pledge your commitment to look after Taronga's wonderful
animals, we well as helping to secure a future for Australian and exotic
animals for generations to come. Your gift enables us to continue to care for
animals and ensures that you will play a part in safeguarding the natural world.

Did you know that we have returned native Mongolian horses to their homeland
where they had become extinct with animals bred at Taronga Western Plains
Zoo?

Did you know that Taronga is now planning to return zoo bred rhinos to
their African homeland once it is safe to do so?

Projects in Progress

At Taronga Zoo in Sydney we are currently raising funds for our Asian Elephant conservation breeding program.

While at Taronga Western Plains Zoo, we are undertaking regional breeding programs for Black Rhino, White Rhino and Greater One-horned Rhino, as well as for Australia's unique Tasmanian Devils.

Some of our other current conservation projects include breed-and-release for:

  •  Booroolong Frog
  • Corroboree Frog
  • Mallee Fowl
  • Regent Honeyeater.

In addition, we support many in situ (field-based) conservation programs.

Including:

  • Asian Turtles in Vietnam
  • Asian Elephants in Thailand and Cambodia
  • Sumatran Tigers in Indonesia
  • and, closer to home, the Northern Hairy-nosed Wombat in Queensland and the Yellow-footed Rock Wallaby in the Jenolan Caves region of NSW.
