Pinnacle Foundation, The

The Pinnacle Foundation scholarship is open to young LGBTIQ people that are disadvantage and/or marginalised but want to undertake full-time or part-time education. Young lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender, intersex and queer people who have been rejected by their families or face difficulties because of their sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression should not face further obstacles when preparing for their future. The Pinnacle Foundation believes LGBTIQ youth should be given every opportunity to excel and achieve their full potential.

Beneficiary Group

The Pinnacle Foundation supports 16-24 year old LGBTIQ who have a proven and genuine desire to continue and complete their education. We take particular interest in students who have been marginalised and faced adversity as a result of their sexuality and/or sexual expression, and who have, despite these setbacks, shown resilience and a real desire to overcome any difficulties they have faced, and move ahead in their lives. Pinnacle's scholars are involved in extra curricula activities, both LGBTIQ other social causes focussed. Our scholars have a desire to give back to society, and many will indeed be leaders of tomorrow. As we like to say at Pinnacle, "We Light the Spark Within".

Projects in Progress

In 2012 Pinnacle is providing 14 scholarships to LGBTIQ 16-24 year olds so that they may continue or embark upon their further education, either finishing high school or entering a tertiary institution.

In 2011 we supported 9 scholars and in our first year, 2010 we supported two fine young scholars.

Each scholar is also matched with a Mentor. This Mentor is chosen so that their sexual expression, location, and fields of work matches that of the scholar. The Mentor will have reached a senior level within their career, in fact will have reached the Pinnacle of it. As a mentor they will be able to help the student with day to day encouragement and practicle support as the scholar tackles their studies.

Wills and Bequests

Supporters of The Pinnacle Foundation often make a Bequest to us in their Wills. We have an information document relating to the ways in which you may support us, on our web site. We would also love to speak with you in person about these important and rewarding ways to ensure that Pinnacle can assist as many young LGBTIQ persons as we can, so please feel free to call Philip Comans on 0416 053301.

General Donations

Our web site, www.thepinnaclefoundation.org has easy to use donation options for you. Of course, we can also accept old fashioned cheques and even cash!

We are registered as a Charity in NSW, and all donations over $2 are tax deductible as we have full DGR Status (Deductible Gift Recipient) from the Australian Taxation Office.

Volunteering

We are a totally volunteer organisation, with no paid employees at all. We rely on volunteers for all aspects of our existence. Particularly we need, right now, assistence with maintaining our web site, and we are looking for someone to take on the Fundraising role who has experience in this important area.

We also have a written policy that all resources and inputs are sourced pro bono if at all possibly. We want to make sure that every dollar donated to us is free to be used for our scholars needs, and not consumed by overheads.

We are proud that for the 2011 Financial Year our operating costs were only approximately 6%.
