Mission / Objective
The objectives of PDCN are :

To educate, inform and assist people with physical disabilities in New South Wales regarding the range of services, structures and programs available that enable their full participation, equality of opportunity and equality of citizenship;

To develop the capacity of people with physical disabilities in New South Wales to advocate for themselves (ie identify their own goals and the confidence to indentify a pathway to achieve their goals);

To educate and inform all stakeholders about the needs of people with physical disabilities so they are able to achieve and maintain full participation, equality of opportunity and equality of citizenship
Services
One of the objects of PDCN is to educate, inform and assist people with physical disabilities in NSW regarding the range of services, structures and programs available that enable their full participation, equality of opportunity and equality of citizenship. PDCN has used a number of tools and strategies in relation to this objective, including: e-bulletins, website, facebook, telephone information service, discussion groups, participating in Expos, twitter and newsletters.
Beneficiary Group
People with physical disability. Physical disability pertains to total or partial loss of a person’s bodily functions (eg walking, gross motor skills, bladder control etc) and total or partial loss of a part of the body (eg a person with an amputation).
Examples of physical disability include:
- amputation;
- arthritis;
- cerebral palsy;
- multiple-sclerosis;
- muscular dystrophy;
- acquired spinal injury (paraplegia or quadriplegia);
- post-polio syndrome;
- spina bifida.
There are many different kinds of disability and a wide variety of situations which people experience.
- The disability may exist from birth or be acquired later in life.
- A person may have one disability or a number of disabilities.
- A person may be treated as having a disability when in fact he or she does not.
- A person's disability may be apparent, such as loss of a limb; or hidden, such as epilepsy or post-polio syndrome.
- Disability may be more or less severe in its impact.
- People with the same disability are as likely as anyone else to have different abilities.
Projects in Progress
Current projects include:
Emergency Readiness and Response: an educational program to develop the capacity of people with a physical disability in NSW to identify their own risks in an emergency situation, and develop a plan to manage those risks in an emergency/ disaster. In 2011-2012 being conducted in 6 areas around NSW
Mentors Matter: Young adults with physical disability mentoring high school students with physical disability
Working with people with Dementia and Physical Disability:an education program developed to increase the knowledge and skills of people working with the dementia and physical disability areas. In 2011-2012 five workshops are being held in the greater northern Sydney area
Building Inclusive Communities: Words Matter: in 2012 PDCN will distribute a small number of copies if its publication Words Matter: Language guide to ten public libraries and 10 high schools in the City of Sydney area

Wills and Bequests
A Bequest within a Will is a clause that reflects your wish to leave a particular gift or share of your estate to a person or organisation. - Workshops that are attended by people with physical disability
- Information Packs/Bags for distribution to people with physical disabilities
- Conducting Community Consultations to better inform the work of PDCN
- Preparation and production of PDCN publications
- PDCN initiated research

Volunteering
PDCN welcomes volunteers. When a person appraches PDCN to work as a volunteer, the sskills, interests and availability of the individual are considered in identifying the project/work the volunteer will be involved in. we currently have volunteers involved in office activities and in education.

Other support
From time to time individuals/organisations offer their skills (without payment) to work on a particular project or initiative (eg Luke Morris who is a graphic artist designed the new PDCN logo). Particular skills being sought are:
