Open Minds supports people with mental illness, disability or acquired brain injury to live independently and well within the community.

Open Minds is a not-for-profit and charitable organisation that has been part of the community since 1912. 

Our team of 220-plus staff support over 800 individuals throughout Brisbane and South-East Queensland to achieve goals, gain and sustain employment and be empowered to make choices.

Our head office is based in Woolloongabba and we have outreach offices in Caboolture, Ipswich, Capalaba and on the Gold Coast.

Services

Open Minds offers a range of services focused on the individual needs of each person we support, including lifestyle and residential support programs, acquired brain injury support services, planning and mentoring support and helping people find a job that’s right for them:

  • Disability Employment Services
  • Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Support Service
  • Personal Helpers & Mentors Program (PHaMs)
  • Lifestyle Support Service
  • Residential Support Service
  • Lifelong Planning Community Support Initiative
  • Respite Effect Services
  • Transition & Post Care Support Initiative
  • Peer facilitated programs, including a Job Club and Do It Club.

At the heart of what we do is a commitment to working alongside individuals and focusing on their strengths to enable individual achievement and recovery.

Our services support people living with mental illness or disability, aged 0-65 years.

CEO

Bernard Wilson, CEO

Bernard Wilson has more than 20 years’ leadership and management experience and has held various senior roles and consultancies within not-for-profit organisations, including more than eight years specialising in disability services and the community sector. Bernard commenced with Open Minds in early 2007. His qualifications include a Masters of Business Administration and he has a passion for business, communications and team building.
