North Shore Heart Research Foundation

Mission / Objective

North Shore Heart Research Foundation was established in 1986 to further knowledge about heart disease and support research into its treatment and prevention. The Foundation provides financial support to cardiologists, surgeons and medical researchers from Royal North Shore Hospital for a wide range of research programs on cardiovascular disease and associated medical conditions. Funding is also provided for two Professorial Chairs of Cardiology at Sydney University. As well, the Foundation financially supports the North Shore Cardiovascular Education Centre (NSCEC) which provides cardiac rehabilitation and lifestyle education programs to former cardiac patients.

Projects in Progress

North Shore Heart Research Foundation currently funds a diverse range of research projects. They include strategies to improve outcomes for patients in rehabilitation and research into arterial remodelling, mechanical ventricular assistance, cardiovascular adequacy in pre-term babies, the use of stem cells and cell function in heart attack. Over $1.6m was in invested in these and other research support projects in 2007.
