National Foundation for Australian Women

NFAW is a voluntary policy based organisation with the following objectives: - to advance and promote the interests of Australian women - to record and make accessible the histories of Australian women - to ensure women's achievements are handed on to future generations.

Projects in Progress

1. The Australian Women's Archives Project to ensure the contribution Australian women have made to society is recognised, protected and accessible.

2. Social Policy Committee in 2007-08 initiated a new debate on paid maternity leave and promoted pay equity.  In 2011-12 its focus is on arrangements to strengthen women’s workforce attachment including:

  • Child care and OSHC
  • the outcomes of the Henry Review relating to tax and superannuation
  • opportunities for training and retraining leading to jobs for women, including mature age workers

 Women’s health issues including abortion law reform

 Housing security

 Policies bearing on older women
