Mission / Objective

Humane Society International seeks to create a humane and sustainable world for all animals, including people. Through education, advocacy and empowerment, particularly in developing countries worldwide, we seek to forge a lasting and comprehensive change in human consciousness and behaviour; to relieve animal suffering; to prevent animal cruelty, abuse, neglect and exploitation; and to protect wild animals and their environments.

Projects in Progress

Current activities include: * International bear protection * Orangutan rehabilitation in Borneo * Elephant conservation in Africa and Asia * Funding street dog programs in Bali, Nepal, Thailand and the Pacific * Protection of species and habitats within Australia through legal means * Trade in species * Marine protection including, whales, turtles, sharks, albatross and overfishing * Making available free teaching resources to help reduce the use of animals in education * Extensive political work, particularly through International treaty processes, to protect wildlife * Animal welfare issues domestically and in such places as India, Korea, Taiwan, China, Vietnam, Columbia, Costa Rica, Bolivia, Cuba and South Africa.
