Mission / Objective
Compass Housing Services Co Ltd (previously called Newmacq Community Housing)
is about alleviating the hardship of housing stress for low to moderate
income earning households by providing secure and affordable housing and
delivering housing products for disadvantaged people who have difficulties
sourcing adequate and affordable housing. In doing that, we also assist our
clients develop a greater level of community involvement including
participation in the operation of the company, as well as an annual social
activities program. For our targeted client group we aim to be ‘your
direction home.’ We continuously work to increase the supply of housing for
our potential clients, properly maintain the housing assets and assist
clients in sustaining their tenancies. Compass is a partner agency of the NSW
Office of Community Housing (an office of Housing NSW) and we in turn are
assisted by many vital service and business partners to achieve our aims. I

Projects:
Projects in Progress:
Allandale Road, Cessnock
Compass is developing 6 dwellings at Allandale Road, Cessnock, these
dwellings are under the National Rental Affordability Scheme. These dwellings
have recently beed approved by Cessnock City Council and Compass is currently
undertaking a tender process to select a builder. Stephen Sharp, Compass's
Executive Manager of Projects and Assets will be project managing this
development. Commencement of construction is set for January 2010 and
completion is due June 2010.
Lightfoot Street, Cessnock
Compass is developing 5 dwellings at Lightfoot Street, Cessnock, these
dwellings are under the National Rental Affordability Scheme, Cessock City
Council has also assisted by donating land for this development. This
development has recently been approved and Compass is currently undertaking a
tender process to select a builder. Stephen Sharp Compass's Executive Manager
of Projects & Assets will project manage this development to completion.
Commencement of construction is set for January 2010 and completion is due in
June 2010.
Moala Parade, Charmhaven
Compass is developing 12 two bedroom units at Moala Parade, Charmhaven, these
units are being developed under the National Rental Affordability Scheme,
these dwellings are in construction and are due for completion by June 2010.
Stephen Sharp, Compass's Executive Manager Projects and Assets is the project
manager for this development.
Beaumont Street, Hamilton
Compass is purchasing 8 studio apartments in Beaumont Street, Hamilton, these
dwellings are being purchased under the Social Housing Growth Funds Round 2.
These units are in construction and are due for completion by June 2010.
Scott Street, Newcastle
Compass is purchasing five units in this development. Three of these
dwellings are being purchased under the Social Housing Growth Funds round 2
and two dwellings are being purchased under the National Rental Affordability
Scheme. These dwellings are in construction and are due for completion in
December 2010.
Watt Street, Newcastle
Compass is purchasing 21 units in Watt Street, Newcastle under the National
Rental Affordability Scheme. Newcastle City Councils Building Better Cities
Committee also contributed $660,000 to the purchase of these units. These
units have recently been approved by Council, will soon be commencing
construction and are set for completion in June 2011. The units will greatly
assist in the need for affordable housing in this area.
Wallsend
Compass is currently developing 4 dwellings at Wallsend, there are 3 x 3
bedroom dwellings and 1 x 2 bedroom existing dwelling being upgraded. Council
approval has been received and we are currently undertaking a tender process
for builders. Stephen Sharp Compass's Executive Manager of Projects and
Assets will be project managing this development. Commencement of
construction of these dwellings is set for January 2009, completion is set
for June 2010

Greg Budworth, CEO
Greg is the CEO of Compass Housing Services Co Ltd. Compass has been
delivering community housing since its inception in 1994 and Greg has been
its CEO since 2004, in which time Compass has emerged as one of the leading
Community Housing Providers in New South Wales.
Since 2004, Compass has grown from managing 400 properties from one location
in Newcastle to managing 2,000 properties from 6 service centres across the
State of New South Wales, Australia, which is supported by an Administrative
Centre in Hamilton NSW. Compass is the largest regionally based community
housing organisation in Australia. Compass has seen growth in staffing from
8 to 52, net assets from circa $6 million to $25 million and is continuing to
diversify into other areas of business and is projecting further growth in
2010-11 of properties under management of 110%, net assets of 200% and
staffing of 70%.
Greg has a keen interest in climate change and equity and is the founding
designer of the Compass Total Sustainability Program which incorporates
personal, social, environmental and corporate sustainability aspirations.
This Compass program is regarded as a significant and valuable addition to
the lives of the clients Compass serves.
Greg is the current Chairman of PowerHousing Australia, the primary industry
representative organisation for the majority of Australia’s largest
community housing providers, a director of the peak body - NSW Federation of
Housing Associations and a director of a support service: FamiliesInsight Inc
of the Hunter Valley, NSW.
Greg has a Masters Degree in Business from Newcastle University and other
tertiary qualifications in Business Management, Project Management, Workplace
Safety and Workplace Training, as well as, other qualifications relevant to
former vocations as a minister of religion and a police detective.
