Bush Church Aid Society of Australia, The

Mission / Objective

Since 1836 BCA has been taking the gospel to the remote and rural areas of Australia, to the people in the bush - or the Outback - an area covering more than half of Australia. It is an association of Christians within the Anglican Church whose vision and goal is "Australia for Christ". Now, an awareness for mission in regional Australia has become a real priority and BCA are responding to these emerging needs.

Our staff are ordinary people giving an extraordinary service for continuing the vision to

  • proclaim Christ
  • nurture Christians
  • strengthen local Christian communities
  • provide Christian care and advocacy
  • develop an understanding of Christ's mission, and
  • promote active partnership throughout the church

Projects in Progress

Over 30 mission areas throughout remote, rural and regional Australia, including community work with aboriginal people, youth workers, school chaplains, religious education in schools and from mid 2011 a full time chaplain to the fly-in fly-out mining community in South Australia. The Kirkby Trust, named after our founding missioner, Bishop Sydney James Kirkby, responds to those in remote and rural areas suffering distress, misfortune, disability or helplessness.
