Brotherhood of St Laurence

Mission / Objective

The Brotherhood of St Laurence has been working for an Australia free of poverty since the 1930s. Through research, services and advocacy, we help people experiencing disadvantage at all stages of life, empowering them to build a better future. We campaign for change to break the cycle of poverty and develop forward-looking programs for individuals and families in need, which are often then adopted by other community organisations and governments.

Services

The Brotherhood of St Laurence provides services that help people to build better lives throughout the life cycle, including job training, care for the elderly and people with disabilities, assisting school leavers to plan for adult work and life, early childhood development programs and support services for newly arrived refugees and migrants.

Wills and Bequests

We hope that supporters who have admired the values and work of the Brotherhood during their lifetime give serious thought to including a gift to the Brotherhood in their will. Including such a gift will help us to continue to tackle the causes of poverty and to enable people to build better lives. Your will is an important expression of your wishes. It specifies how your estate is to be divided among those who are important to you, and helps ensure that the loved ones you leave behind are spared many of the complications of finalising your affairs. Making or revising your will does not need to be expensive, as our booklet Making a bequest to the Brotherhood of St Laurence explains. This booklet also contains suggested wording. Please contact us if you would like a copy mailed to you. If you have already included a gift to the Brotherhood in your will, please let us know so we can thank you personally. All information is treated in the strictest confidence. For more information about leaving a gift to the Brotherhood, please contact our Planned Giving Officer on (03) 9483 1399.

General Donations

If you would like to make a one-off donation to the Brotherhood of St Laurence, we would love to hear from you. Please call our donation line on (03) 9483 1301.

Volunteering

Volunteers play a vital role in the Brotherhood’s activities. Currently, 1300 generous people donate their time and skills to the Brotherhood in Victoria, making a huge contribution to our work for an Australia free of poverty. People volunteer for many different reasons, but overwhelmingly the reward comes through making a positive difference in the community, facing new challenges, meeting new people and finding broader horizons. If you would like more information about volunteering, please email retailvolunteer@nullbsl.org.au or phone (03) 9380 7825.
