Mission / Objective
The Animal Welfare League of Qld. has for over 50 years, cared for and re- homed stray and abandoned animals. We care for more than 12,000 animals a year and provide reduced price de-sexing and micro-chipping at our community vet clinic to help reduce pet suffering and overpopulation. For owners who are unable to pay we provide free or subsidised vet care for their sick and injured animals. We are the leading animal shelter in SE Qld - working towards zero euthanasia. We work to implement long term solutions to the underlying causes of pet overpopulation and abandoned animals, serving a catchment area of almost 1(one) million people. We receive no State or Federal government funding for our welfare work and exist solely on donations from our community. We have approximately 2300 regular supporters, 120 staff, and 300 plus volunteers. With their unceasing support we are also able to provide educational services to thousands of school children in the Gold Coast area each year and community programs to support our animals including fostering, enrichment programs and dog exercise and training programs

LEGACY PET PROGRAM For many of us our pets are our greatest companions; they give so much joy and expect so little in return. It’s also a blessing for many of us that we are able to think ahead and make arrangements for a time when we might not be able to care for our animals ourselves. Naturally if you have loving friends or family who are familiar with your pet/s and who agree to take your pet/s into their homes should you become ill or pass away, this is ideal; however at the AWL we understand this is not always possible. The AWLQ recognises the very real concern that pet owners in this situation have for the long term comfort and security of their companion animals’ welfare. We share this concern and believe maintaining the pet’s quality of life is paramount and that all companion animals should continue to receive love and human companionship for all of their natural life. To this end the AWLQ Legacy Pet Program was developed… The first step is to think about your pet’s daily routine and then complete one of our Pet Profiles. This is a detailed record of your pet’s daily routine, their medical history, likes, dislikes and special preferences and is a vital point of reference for those caring for your pets in the future. Once ‘enrolled’ in the program pet owners can have peace of mind knowingAWLQ will oversee the care and wellbeing of their animals should they be unable to continue to look after them for any reason in the future. Enrollment in the AWLQ Legacy Pet Program provides for a caring and ongoing guardianship of cats or dogs with no obligation to make a donation or bequest in lieu of any expenses. All that needs to be done is to forward a copy of the completed Pet Profile to the AWLQ and give a copy to the solicitor, trustee or executor of your estate.

Wills and Bequests
Many people spend time making plans and thinking about the future, but overlook one of the most important responsibilities - making a Will. About one-third of all Australians die without leaving a Will. When you make a Will you have the opportunity to ensure that you provide for loved ones and friends. It is the only way you can be sure your assets and possessions are distributed as you wish. You may also wish to ensure the ongoing care and welfare of your pets should your death preceed theirs - the Animal Welfare League Qld Inc provides peace of mind for responsible and caring pet owners through our Legacy Pet Program Your Will also gives you an opportunity to leave a very special gift toorganisations you admire or which have played an important part in your life. Such a gift or ‘bequest’, is the ultimate expression of your generosity and are a very personal representation of you and your nature. For some, they provide an opportunity to leave behind an important legacy after a lifetime of giving. For others, they offer the chance to fulfill their dream to provide a considerable donation at a level of giving that may have been impossible during their lifetime - and thereby providing significant injection of funds for building and major improvement projects. When you leave a bequest to the Animal Welfare League of Queensland, you guarantee that your generosity and values will continue to live on well beyond your own lifetime
